Arts in the Parks
Arts in the Parks: beginning in 1977, stands
at the forefront of summer arts programs nationwide. From
its modest beginnings in two communities in Jay County, Arts
in the Parks has grown over the last thirty years to include
12 communities in the counties of Adams in Indiana and
Mercer and Auglaize in Ohio. This unique program provides
art instruction to hundreds of students annually by
literally taking the arts to them. Noted artists from both
international and national acclaim share the arts with
students 7 to 14 years of age. All disciplines are covered
including the visual arts, dance, theater, and music.
Community collaboration and support for the program has
allowed this program to grow.
Artists in Residence
Artists in Residence:
Artist residencies are designed to place trained,
knowledgeable, practicing professional artists, who are
enthusiastic and motivated, into settings where they can
share the joy and benefits of the creative process.
Through residency programs in craft, dance, folk arts,
interdisciplinary arts, literature, media arts, music,
theatre and visual arts, schools and service agencies can
expect to improve themselves and strengthen their
communities.
In school settings, residency artists are prepared to
connect to other curricular areas. Residency artists link
the arts to areas beyond their artistic specialty enabling
them to work with a diverse group of students and
instructors. In nonprofit service settings, residency
artists are sensitive to the needs of various communities
and also the potential that lies within each individual.
Innovations
Innovations:
Based on the idea that a creative mind is a healthy mind,
Innovations offers instruction in not only the visual arts,
but also health and wellness. Classes range from traditional
techniques in oil painting and ceramic design to yoga and
belly dancing. Innovation instructors provide a high
standard of education to students and dedication within the
classroom.
MusicWorks
MusicWorks
is a wonderful program of musical instruction for all ages.
The program integrates academic foundations of reading music
and position to all instruments both band and orchestral.
Experienced instructors provide both individual and group
instruction to nearly 200 students yearly. The enthusiastic
faculty share their passion and love for music with their
students.
Scholarship support for instructional programs is provided by MainSource Bank
and Dr. G's Memorial Scholarship Fund.
