Grammy winner
Alison Brown takes the banjo and guitar

Bluegrass for jazzers, jazz for
bluegrassers; something for everyone in between!

Garry West (bass) and Larry Atamanuik (drums). More
information is available at

an instrument possessed of a unique sonic signature
and an inescapable beauty.” -Billboard Magazine

So, what's a daisy mayhem?
Wicked
grooves, sublime lead singing, great
harmonies, sparkling original songs, and
a deep repertoire that spans 200 years
of American music. Four people who share
an irresistible chemistry on stage. An
unusually gleeful string band that
celebrates both tradition and
improvisation and that stumps the
categorizers. (Are they an agnostic
gospel band? A homeopathic bluegrass
band? Are they crazy?). Worth seeing...
What does it sound like? Start with a
fiddle, a guitar, and a standup bass.
Add a cardboard box with a suitcase bass
drum and tin can cymbals, played by an
ex-rock and zydeco drummer. Over that
fine groove, hang Rani Arbo's expressive
alto, seamless four-part harmonies, and
a splash of banjo and ukulele, and you
have it. Find out more at
www.raniarbo.com.
“If Rani
Arbo & Daisy Mayhem offer to cook at
your place, you better open up all the
doors, and borrow every table and chair
you can because the whole town should
come."
-Folk Alley
"A
sparkling, high energy show marked by
breathtaking musicianship."

Performance Time: 7:30 pm |

|
|
International Guitar Night is North
America’s premier mobile guitar
festival. Known as North America’s
premier mobile guitar festival,
International Guitar Night (IGN) is
sponsored by Acoustic Guitar
Magazine. It is the only production
of its kind to have grassroots
origins. Ever since its beginning in
1995 in a converted laundromat in
the California Bay Area, IGN has
featured the best performing guitar
composers from around the world.
Since the beginning, audiences have
cherished the friendly informal
ambiance of the performances.
Participants have relished the
chance IGN affords to express
reverence for one another, and to
collaborate rather than compete. The
unique brand of “guitar positivity”
the forum provides has helped make
IGN the most successful guitar
showcase of its kind.
For the November 2010 Canadian tour
and for the January/February 2011
U.S. tour, Brian Gore will be joined
by Clive Carroll, England's
show-stopping steel string guitarist
and favorite IGN alumnus; Alexandre
Gismonti, the son and protege of
legendary Brazilian guitarist
Egberto Gismonti, and Pino
Forastiere from Italy, whose two
handed melodic style has placed him
at the forefront of the new
contemporary steel string guitar
world. Find out more at
http://internationalguitarnight.squarespace.com.

“With the International Guitar
Night, Brian Gore has created a new
niche for the myriad of styles that
can be played by the unaccompanied
acoustic guitar, as well as
marvelous opportunity for virtuosos
to interact and learn from one
another onstage.”

Chic
Gamine

Theatre

Saturday, February 12, 2011
Performance Time: 7:30pm |

Chic
Gamine, the impishly charming
Winnipeg/Montreal-based vocal quintet,
has been serenading its audiences since
the summer of 2007. The group is
composed of singers Ariane Jean, Andrina
Turenne, Alexa Dirks, Annick Brémault
and drummer Sacha Daoud. Over the
years, its members have been integral
parts of a multitude of projects,
notably, R’n’B/Soul sensation little
boy boom, Brazilian Funk/Pop
flavoured Gaïa and
International Independant Music
Award laureate, World Vocal ensemble
Madrigaïa.
With a solo percussionist as their main
musical support, Chic Gamine use their
voices as instruments, effortlessly
launching into intricate string
arrangements, bass-heavy rhythm sections
and lush harmonies. These
multifariously talented songwriters
create a sound that resonates with soul,
passion, and an unabashedly random and
sometimes downright peculiar brand of
humor that reels audiences in and leaves
them begging for more. Gospel, Soul,
R'n'B, '50's Doo-Wop, Brazilian forro
and French chanson are infused into the
voices and rhythms of these five
effervescent songmakers, combining for a
sound that is uniquely Chic Gamine.
