Souled Out Band at Hudson Family Park Amphitheatre Sunday, August 21
|

Arts Place is presenting the Souled Out Band at the Hudson Family Park Amphitheatre on Sunday, August 21 at 7:00 p.m. The park is located at 500 S. Wayne St. in Portland, Indiana. Tickets are $10 premium and $5 upper amphitheatre, and may be purchased at Arts Place, by phone at 260-726-4809, or click here.
Souled Out Band is made up of 9 members with six vocalists and a 5-piece horn section. Currently in their eighth year together, these musicians have a sound and energy all their own. The band plays classics, R&B, Funk, Soul, popular Country, Reggae, Motown, and more.
The public is welcome to bring picnic baskets for the event. Attendees are also encouraged to bring blankets or lawn or beach chairs. Please note that no alcohol may be brought on the grounds. Mark your calendars and join the fun at Hudson Family Park on Sunday, August 21.

MusicWorks Registration
|
|
There's still time to sign up for MusicWorks! Lessons begin September 8th in Portland, St. Marys, and Blackford County. Click here to view the fall catalog. Those who register by August 26 will receive priority consideration. After that date, classes will be offered on a space-available basis.
Registrations are being accepted at the centers in Portland, Indiana and St. Marys, Ohio. Scholarships are available, and must be turned in by August 26.
New students this year will receive a 20% discount on individual instruction. Those who took lessons in the past but were not enrolled in 2010-11 are also eligible for the new student discount. Students or adults who were enrolled in MusicWorks during the 2010-11 season and continue their instruction will receive a 20% discount off the lesson fees when they sign up for individual instruction on a second instrument.
Major funding for MusicWorks is provided by The George and Frances Ball Foundation. Scholarship assistance is provided by MainSource Bank and Dr. G's Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Jay County Singer/Songwriters Perform September 23
|
|
Area songwriters Tom Frye, Kinsey Michal Fennig, and Ken Bantz will perform at Arts Place, Portland Center on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place at Arts Place, Portland Center, located at 131 East Walnut Street. Ken Bantz lives in rural Portland with his wife, Janet. A certified public accountant, Bantz grew up on a family farm in Jay County. Ken has released two CD's, You Can't Go Back and Complete the Circle . Bryant songwriter Kinsey Michal is a emerging artist with a desire to bless, inspire and entertain her audience. If you asked Kinsey to credit her success, she would cite the work ethic instilled in her by her father, and the constant encouragement of her mother. Bryant musician Tom Frye recently released a new studio recording from the Frye Family Band. Under Indiana Lights showcases Tom’s songwriting skills along with his family’s talents. For the recording, Tom serves as the main vocalist with the kids singing both lead and background vocals. Tom is a MusicWorks instructor at Arts Place, Portland Center.

Get the Works: ArtWorks and PenWorks Fall Registration
|
|
ArtWorks and PenWorks (formerly known as Innovations) classes and workshops will begin September 10th and there's something for everyone this fall. The Portland Center is offering Clay for kids and adults, Works on Paper for kids and adults, plus new drawing workshops led by Tiffany Johnson. Pat Rayman will once again teach her popular watercolor painting class at the Collective Center, and Kim Leopold is teaching Tuesday Night Craft Classes.
Artists can get the Competitive Advantage at a free workshop led by the Executive Director of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Charles A. Shepard, III. Getting into the Best Shows, Fairs & Festivals will take place at the Portland Center on Thursday, September 15 at 6pm. Click here for more.
Co-sponsored by the College Community Arts Council, Arts Place is also presenting PenWorks poetry classes at the Wright State University Lake Campus in Celina, Ohio. The poetry series will be held on the second Tuesday of each month from 7-8:30pm, September through November. These workshops are free but space is limited so registration is required.
