Indiana Arts Commission to Adopt Modified
Restructuring Plan
After a 5-week review of
public input and recommendations from its Regional
Arts Partners, the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC)
approved a modified version on April 15th
of a restructuring plan unveiled and initially
approved in March. The original plan centralized
almost all services currently provided by the
Regional Arts Partners. The modified plan approved
in April centralizes some services while retaining
certain aspects of the regional system.

Award
Rocco Landesman, Chairman of the National Endowment
for the Arts, announced recently the
Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) is the recipient
of the 2009 National Accessibility Leadership
Award/grant for their outstanding accessibility
work. Sponsored by the
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the
National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA),
the award recognizes exceptional initiatives or
programs that make the arts accessible and inclusive
for older adults and individuals with disabilities.

Individual Artist Program Grant Workshop December 1
in Muncie
The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced recently
that Hoosier artists in selected disciplines have
until February 1, 2010 to submit applications for
the IAC’s Individual Artist Program (IAP) grant.
A
series of
application workshops
have been planned. The IAC will present a free
workshop for visual artists on December 1, 2009 at 7
p.m. covering the application process for artists
planning to apply for an Individual Artist Program
Grant from the IAC. The workshop will take place at
Gordy Fine Art & Framing Co., 224 East Main Street
in Muncie.

Application Deadline October 10
Local artists and
food producers are sought by October 10 for the
Indiana Artisan program's final 2009 adjudication.
Since Indiana Artisan was launched by Lt. Governor
Skillman in 2008, nearly 650 art and food artisans
from around the state have applied to be part of the
program.

ArtsWORK Indiana, the

with disabilities. Creative Connections workshops
will take place in New Albany, Indianapolis,
Columbus, Muncie, Richmond, and Valparaiso. Click

Indiana Budget Proposals Slash the Arts
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was
recently signed into law. The act included $50
million in direct support for arts jobs through the
National Endowment for the Arts and language
that would have prevented museums, theaters, and
arts centers from receiving stimulus funds was
removed. Now the focus has moved to arts funding at
the state level.

Arts Place will hold its fall conference on October
30, 2008 from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The conference is
titled
Building Creative Communities: The Role of Cultural
Districts in Reinvigorating Cities. The
conference will be held at Arts Place’s Portland
Center, located at 131 East Walnut Street in
Portland, Indiana. Cost for the day is $45

The conference is designed to inform arts providers,
community leaders and government officials in the

Center Preserving Great Lakes Native American
Culture
The
National Center for Great Lakes Native American
Culture, Incorporated (NCGLNAC), is a
not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving
Great Lakes Native American Indian art, handcrafts,
and history through a variety of in-house and
outreach programs. Since it was founded in May of
2001, NCGLNAC has organized regular events to
preserve and promote Native culture through
workshops and other activities.
This summer will mark the fifth annual
Gathering of Great Lakes Nations Pow Wow. The
event will be held on June 7-8 at the Tri-State Gas
Engine and Tractor Grounds in Portland, Indiana.

Place Launches Arts Connection Engine
Arts Place, Inc. is offering a unique online arts
resource through its website
IndianaArts.org.
The website is Indiana’s only statewide arts and
cultural portal. Five other arts organizations have
joined with Arts Place as partners in using this
service.
The
ArtsConnection Engine (ACE),
a web service of IndianaArts.org, provides a
centralized online system that brings together
artists, arts organizations, arts patrons,
arts-related businesses, the media, and sponsors.
The ACE service enables partnering websites to
provide visitors with customized, searchable local
and statewide arts-related content including an
events calendar, classified listings, and
directories of artists, arts organizations, and
related businesses.

facilities and offers advice to the Commission
concerning ways to further the art of poetry in
Indiana.
